Humanity is winning. For the last 500 years, man-eating monsters called signum have plagued the world of Lokyer. Now, thanks to technological advancements and the rise of mages their numbers have dwindled. The most powerful mages can attempt to pass a test called the Crucible. If they succeed, they earn the title “Prestige” and are given a license granting them incredible privileges.

After the criminal organization, Penumbra, killed his mother and brother and left him to starve alone in the forest, Monty vowed to become a Prestige and avenge them. He is admitted into Constellation Academy’s Prestige Program, dedicated to fostering the next wave of Prestiges.

There, he meets friends old and new as he balances his classes, his apprenticeship, and his vengeance. After a promising lead reveals the location of a Penumbra base, revenge for his old family is the closest it’s ever been. But it might cost him the lives of his new friends he made…
